VIDEO: How to perform an OBD relearn on a Ford F-Series, featuring the PDQ TPMS sensor
According to Business Insider, the best selling vehicle in North America in 2017 was the Ford-F-Series. We anticipate you will see these vehicles in your shop more often in the coming years for tire rotations and tire and TPMS sensor replacement. Therefore, you will need to know how to replace the TPMS sensors and perform a relearn procedure.
There are two ways to replace a sensor: COPY/CLONE or CREATE TPMS sensor IDs. In the video, we explain how to create new sensor ID’s and perform an OBD relearn procedure, to skip the long and complicated manual relearn steps, thanks to new patented technology, Sync ID, an enhanced OBD communication to increase OBD relearn coverage for Asian, Domestic, and European vehicles.
Programmable aftermarket sensors, such as the PDQ TPMS sensor shown in the video, have the capability to be installed in replacement of an OE sensor.
Scenarios that require a technician to create a new TPMS sensor IDs include:
If the TPMS sensor ID is unable to be copied/cloned because the sensor battery is dead or damaged
If one TPMS sensor dies, consider replacing all the sensors to save customers on future labor costs (especially if they are the original sensors and the sensors are 5-10+ years old or more than 100,000 miles). When replacing the sensors, you may need to create new sensor ID’s.
After programming the TPMS sensor (creating new TPMS sensor IDs), you will need to perform a relearn procedure to the ECU recognizes the location of the new TPMS sensor IDs.
